In a high scoring game at Moorefield on Wednesday evening the home side took the points in this opening game in the U.14 football league. With both defences prone to make mistakes and live-wire forwards ready to punish any errors the scores flowed freely.
Moorefield made the best possible start with early goals by Jordan McGrath and Tommie Tobin putting them in driving seat. After a slow start Clane eventually got on the score board with Ciaran Kelly shooting 1-2 in a good five minute spell. The sides continued to swop scores and there was several passages of top class football. The decisive scores came mid-way through the half when the winners shot three goals in a seven minute spell. Clane staged a mini recovery before halftime when the scored 1-3 but Moorefield led at the break by 5-7 to 2-5.
When Reece Healy and Aaron Masterson increased the winners lead early in the second half they looked on course for a comfortable win but Clane hit a purple patch and three unanswered goals brought them right back into the game. But the winners finished the stronger and late scores by Tobin, Masterson & Tom Connolly sealed the victory.
Best for the winners were Jordan McGrath, Mark Dempsey, Evan Kavanagh, Dylan Halligan, John F. O Brien, Mark McDermott, James Dowling, Aaron Masterson & Tommie Tobin. Best for Clane were Niall Wire, Ciaran Kelly, Brian McLoughlin, Adam Donovan, Owen Maguire & Keelan Smith.
