Moorefield and Sarsfields served up a cracking game of football in the 1st round of the Feile A on Sunday morning. Played in tough weather conditions, the opening stages were tough with both teams finding it difficult to raise the white flag. Gary Redmond opened the scoring for Moorefield in the 12th minute when he converted a free. Sarsfields first score came three minutes later when Nikki Redmond scored a goal after a good ball in from Killian O’Brien. Moorefield replied immediately with an excellent point from play from Adam Meehan after Dylan Burke won possession from the kick out and made a great run from midfield to set up Meehan for the score. Adam Meehan levelled the game in the 19th minute with another good point from play before substitute Conor Brady put Moorefield in the lead in the 24th minute with a great goal after a great ball through to him from Gary Redmond. Ben Scanlan kicked the last score of the first half when he converted a free for Sarsfields in the 26th minute to leave a half time score of 1-03 to 1-01 for Moorefield.
Sarsfields took the lead in the 7th minute of the second half when they were awarded a penalty which Karl Hartley successfully converted. Ben Scanlan pointed from a free in the 9th minute to put Sarsfields into a two point lead. Gary Redmond reduced the deficit to a point two minutes later with superb point from play but Sarsfields put two between the teams once again when Caolan Byrne pointed from play. Gary Redmond added points in the 17th and 18th minute to level the game and it now looked as if either team could win this game. Moorefield upped a gear or two for the last ten minutes and were playing some excellent football; Adam Meehan put them in the lead in the 21st minute with his 3rd point of the game. Sean Morrissey made a great catch in midfield from the kick out and combined with Gary Redmond who sent it a great ball to Adam Meehan to beat Sarsfields goal keeper John Leamy to put them four points clear. Gary Redmond kicked his fifth and the final score of the game in the 26th minute to secure the win Moorefield with a final score of 2-08 to 2-03.
