On the day we had 3 under 10 teams and 2 under 12 teams competeing with more than 60 boys representing MOOREFIELD….

First up in the morning were our U10’s who were outstanding on the day and left Hawkfield on top of their game…..(rpt to follow).

The Under 12’s were up in the afternoon and boy did they continue on what the Under 10’s had started earlier!!!

The second team, who were mentored by Mick Meehan and Andy Sherlock, threw in against Kildangan  at 2pm. With enough players to make up 2 teams, the first lads up made a great start keeping the scoring pretty tight against a Kildangan side that were very competitive in  all areas of the pitch.  Playing against the wind the Moorefield lads showed that they had what it takes to manage  all conditions, keeping the ball tight and short passing with some great running off the ball they came out on top after the first half. A really great team performance with players like Conor Darby, Adam Meehan,  Jack Casey, Cormac Kelly and Evan O’Brien shining on the Day!! The second half saw the remaining U12’s take to the field! They knew they had a lot to live up to and after a shaky start, they settled down to match the first half performance. With a different style of football (now playing with the Wind) the long ball in to the forwards was the right way to play. With Gary Redmond now firing on all cylinders the ball being supplied to the forwards was second to none and saw goal and point chances being taken when they came along. Martin Heffernan showed some great determination around the goal line with Seamus Anderson contributing to a great performance by all the Lads on the DAY…..Well Done!!!

The last match of the day saw Moorefield U12A’s take on Suncroft in what turned out to be a FANTASTIC GAME, on the day the best was certainly left to the last !! After being beaten by Suncroft just a week earlier, the Moorefield lads were really up for this game and the atmosphere around this clash was electric. Moorefield had a new look to their normal lineout with some positional changes making the team look stronger and more mobile through out the field. After going behind by 2 points  early in the game the lads settled and started to play a confident short passing game against the wind which paid off when the chances on front of the Suncroft Goals started to appear. The midfield pair of  Jo Jo Conlon and Jason Brogan were beginning to dominate the centre of the pitch. Jo Jo Conlon now showed more and more and this resulted in the lad playing the game of his life both in defense and scoring with a great tally of points being scored by the midfielder. The centre half forward line of Jack Liston and Mikey Rooney were now showing great width  and depth in their game and Jack showing some great fielding and distribution, helped by the running and showing for the ball by Mikey. At the break the Moores were up by a small margin but by no means ruling the day.  A shaky start to the 2nd half saw Suncroft scoring a goal from a bad defensive mistake. Now we had a game on our hands!! Score for score the two teams played football the way it was meant to be played with determination, heart and respect for each other. The cliff hanger of a game came down to the wire with The Moores coming out on top by the bare minimum 1 POINT. WHAT A GAME, WELL DONE TO ALL THE LADS FROM BOTH CLUBS..

Internal League

Internal Club League.;

The concluding games in our internal club league for 9/10 year olds provided plenty of excitement and some excellent football.

In the opening game Dublin gave their best performance of the league in accounting for Cork.  They failed to gain any points prior to this but put all this behind them to play some outstanding football and take third place overall.  Cork too can be well pleased with their effort as they showed lots of courage and never stopped trying even as the score mounted against them.

The final between Kerry and Kildare was a most entertaining game and provided plenty of entertainment for the spectators. There was an abundance of end to end play, lots of  free-flowing football and the score taking by both sides was excellent. Kerry were the early leaders and looked set for a comfortable win but Kildare displayed great heart and commitment to fight back and narrow gap by half-time.  It continued in a similar manner in the second period with first one side and then the other enjoying periods of dominance. But it was Kerry who finished better and some late scores gave them a deserving victory.

Thanks to all the mentors who helped out with teams during the league.

U10s Retain Navan Tournament Title

On Saturday 18th June our U10As travelled to Navan O’Mahony’s Tournament, sponsored by NYPD, seeking to retain the title that Moorefield won last year and also in 2008. This year all games were played in 11-a-side Go Games format with each panel comprising 15 players. Moorefield’s group also included Trim, Ratoath and St. Colmcilles from Duleek. In the first game against Trim, Moorefield ran out very easy winners. The second game against Ratoath was a much closer affair with Ratoath being a much bigger team. Despite trailing at half-time Moorefield came back to win by a solitary point. The third game against St. Colmcilles was also a close game with Moorefield winning by just 3 points in the end to top the group and qualify for the A Final. Navan O’Mahony’s topped the other group also comprising Kingscourt, Bailieboro and Wolfe Tones from just outside Navan.

The final proved to ne an excellent game of football. Moorefield were rattled early on by conceding 3 goals through defensive lapses while scoring 1 goal themselves. However the team kept their heads with Conor Moore, Cian Moore and Christopher Conlan kicking some great points to leave the score a t half-time, Navan 3 – 4 Moorefield 1 – 7. The game continued to be close fought on the resumption but Moorefield gradually took control with strong defense from Cathal Cribbin and further points from Conlan (he finished with 7 points in total, all from play) and a goal by Cian Moore. Two points by Ryan Finn and goals by Jamie Barry and captain Jack Casey left Moorefield 8 points clear, 4 – 13 to 4 – 5 at the final whistle to retain the title. Every one of the fifteen players on the panel contributed to great performances throughout the day. Our thanks to Navan O’Mahony’s for their superb organisation and the refreshments provided for players and supporters and who despite their disappointment at losing the final invited Moorefield back next year to bid for three in a row.

The full panel on the day was: Dylan Quirke, Cathal Cribbin, Dylan O’Brien, Rory Waters, Jamie Barry, Ryan Finn, Sean Cummins, David Moloney, Jack Casey, Bernie Stokes, Ryan Hanniffy, Cian Moore, Conor Moore, Chistopher Conlan, Craig Buckley.

Mentors:- Jude Maguire, Gerry Galvin

Moorefield U11’s played Suncroft at home Tuesday 14th. This was a great match played by two teams who played some really good football on the night. Some very strong team work was shown by the Moorefield lads  that shows some great potential for these players in the future for Moorefield!!!

Moorefield U11’s are playing  Laurences away on Friday evening at 7.15pm

Well done to the Under 14 Seconds in their inspiring display of FOOTBALL when beating local rivals Sarsfields on Monday evening in Moorefield. They now progress to the semi final of their league !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Moorefield U14B team pulled off a great victory on home turf to local rivals Sarsfields in Div 6 of the Bord NaOg League. This was down to be a game to decide the 3rd and forth placed teams in the league and to decide the outcome of the semi finals pairings. Both teams got off to a flying start with good scores that led to a 1-5 to 1-3 advantage to Moorefield at half time. However Sarsfields came out blazing in the second half and racked up a 4-3 to 1-5 advantage in a goal filled 15mins. It was then the turn of Moorefield to dominate which they did for the rest of game and ran out winners with a score of 3-9 to 4-4. Daryl Gannon was the hero for Moorefield with a goal in the last 2 mins of play. Notable players for both teams were Tommy Tobin, James Grace & Tom Harrington (Moorefield) and Mikey Murphy, Shane Doyle and Stephen Foley (Sarsfields)

Well done to both U12 Teams who just finished their U12 Divisional GO GAMES  League !!!

Both teams had a great run in the league and now look forward to their All County Blitz in Hawkfield at the end of June !!!!
