WELL DONE TO ALL UNDER 10’S AND UNDER 12 TEAMS WHO COMPETED IN THE SOUTHBOARD BLITZ HELD ON SAT 25th OF JUNE!!!!!!!
On the day we had 3 under 10 teams and 2 under 12 teams competeing with more than 60 boys representing MOOREFIELD….
First up in the morning were our U10’s who were outstanding on the day and left Hawkfield on top of their game…..(rpt to follow).
The Under 12’s were up in the afternoon and boy did they continue on what the Under 10’s had started earlier!!!
The second team, who were mentored by Mick Meehan and Andy Sherlock, threw in against Kildangan at 2pm. With enough players to make up 2 teams, the first lads up made a great start keeping the scoring pretty tight against a Kildangan side that were very competitive in all areas of the pitch. Playing against the wind the Moorefield lads showed that they had what it takes to manage all conditions, keeping the ball tight and short passing with some great running off the ball they came out on top after the first half. A really great team performance with players like Conor Darby, Adam Meehan, Jack Casey, Cormac Kelly and Evan O’Brien shining on the Day!! The second half saw the remaining U12’s take to the field! They knew they had a lot to live up to and after a shaky start, they settled down to match the first half performance. With a different style of football (now playing with the Wind) the long ball in to the forwards was the right way to play. With Gary Redmond now firing on all cylinders the ball being supplied to the forwards was second to none and saw goal and point chances being taken when they came along. Martin Heffernan showed some great determination around the goal line with Seamus Anderson contributing to a great performance by all the Lads on the DAY…..Well Done!!!
The last match of the day saw Moorefield U12A’s take on Suncroft in what turned out to be a FANTASTIC GAME, on the day the best was certainly left to the last !! After being beaten by Suncroft just a week earlier, the Moorefield lads were really up for this game and the atmosphere around this clash was electric. Moorefield had a new look to their normal lineout with some positional changes making the team look stronger and more mobile through out the field. After going behind by 2 points early in the game the lads settled and started to play a confident short passing game against the wind which paid off when the chances on front of the Suncroft Goals started to appear. The midfield pair of Jo Jo Conlon and Jason Brogan were beginning to dominate the centre of the pitch. Jo Jo Conlon now showed more and more and this resulted in the lad playing the game of his life both in defense and scoring with a great tally of points being scored by the midfielder. The centre half forward line of Jack Liston and Mikey Rooney were now showing great width and depth in their game and Jack showing some great fielding and distribution, helped by the running and showing for the ball by Mikey. At the break the Moores were up by a small margin but by no means ruling the day. A shaky start to the 2nd half saw Suncroft scoring a goal from a bad defensive mistake. Now we had a game on our hands!! Score for score the two teams played football the way it was meant to be played with determination, heart and respect for each other. The cliff hanger of a game came down to the wire with The Moores coming out on top by the bare minimum 1 POINT. WHAT A GAME, WELL DONE TO ALL THE LADS FROM BOTH CLUBS..
